| Why is my paint separating? |

Paint that has been unused for several months or years or that has been improperly milled can sometimes separate, meaning the actual pigment separates from the binder.

Here’s my response to a Mindful Artist community member’s question about that. What to do? Is it OK to use?

What about you? Have you had paint separate on you? And what did you do. Please share in the comments section below.

Your videos have been wonderful for both new and “refresh my memory” information.
I recently had separating issues with both Blick and Liquitex acrylics. These paints were not old, but I live in the tropics (high heat and humidity.) I think climate has more to do with it than age. So I just played around with the pigment globs and got some interesting effects. Archival quality is doubtful, but I paint to have fun. Maybe that helps.

So interesting! I’ve never worked in that climate so that’s new info for me. Thanks for sharing!

yes I’ve definitely had this happen with old paints I’ve had, different brands but definitely the cheaper ones!
